Steps on the Butte Montmartre

Color photograph of the steps leading down from the butte Montmartre in Paris

This is one of the stairways that provide pedestrian access to the Butte Montmartre in Paris. This particular set of steps parallels the funicular just west of the park beneath the Sacré-Cœur basilica.

This photograph was taken in the late afternoon from the top of the steps. You are looking south. The open area visible at the base of the steps is the place Suzanne Valladon, with the rue Tardieu behind it. The lower terminus of the funicular is visible off to the left in the background, at the bottom of the steps; the two cabins of the funicular were shuttling between stations when I took this photograph. And yes, if you look closely on the left of the stairway about half of the way down, you’ll see Hare Krishna adherents proselytizing in a vaguely musical way.
