Parc Floral

On the east side of Paris, there is a large floral park that features flowers and plants of all different types year-round. This park is called the Parc Floral in French.

I visited the park on June 20, and to my surprise, there wasn’t much in bloom (I don’t know much about flowers, but I thought there would always be something in bloom in spring and summer). Finally, after searching about a bit, I found an area that had lots of flowers blooming, and I photographed the flowers you see here. These were in an area dedicated to rotating exhibitions of flowers, and the area is shaded by very tall trees that provide broken sunlight to illuminate the flowers and add to the pleasing atmosphere. Unfortunately, it was very warm and humid on this particular day, although that doesn’t show here.

I was amazed by the endless groups of schoolchildren visiting this park on the day I went. There isn’t much there, except for the flowers. There’s an amphitheater, but that wasn’t in use (although it was being prepared for a jazz festival scheduled for the Fête de Musique—a city-wide music festival that is held every year on the summer solstice). I could not see what the attraction was, but the children seemed to like the place, just the same.

If I ever visit this park when larger areas are in bloom, I’ll take new pictures.
