A river channel about 100 metres wide flows from the foreground, passing beneath one stone bridge, and then another behind it, and disappears from the frame beyond. The time is sometime after sunset, and the sky is a darkening blue, changing gradually to red at the horizon. Small clouds dot the sky and are lit by the colors of the sunset. A small boat is moving towards the camera on the river in the distance, between the two bridges. On the left and center of the photograph, on the banks of the river, we see the silhouettes of several buildings, a dome, and a sharp spire. In the distance among these buildings, the last, with conical turrets, is brightly illuminated. Streetlights along the streets bordering the river reflect warmly off the relatively calm, slightly rippled water. In the lower right corner of the photograph, we can just distinguish a street or road of some kind, well below the spot from which the photo was taken.
