Gallery Between Towers

Color exterior photograph of a gallery between two towers
text description

This is the gallery that connects the two towers of Notre-Dame Cathedral. It is visible from the ground as the highest gallery connecting the two towers on the facade of the cathedral. It is only about two metres wide, and it gets even narrower as it winds around the front of the towers (note the width of the gallery as it passes around the right side of the tower in the background, behind the gargoyles).

The gargoyles visible in this photograph are famous, especially the one on the extreme right.

The signs in the background point out the entrance to the belfry (off to the left), and the stairway to the summit of the tower along with the exit stairway back down to the ground (off to the right). You are looking south from the north tower in this photograph. The time is mid-afternoon.
