Facade at Night
This is the front of the Cathédrale de Notre Dame de Paris, as it appears in the evening.
The lighting of the cathedral was upgraded on Christmas 2002. Formerly, it was lit by floodlights at night, and I have a photo of the old lighting, if you would like to see it. The new lighting is integrated into the facade and is much more even, and looks much nicer. The entire facade also was cleaned and restored over a period of years ending around Christmas, 1999.
The combination of my wide-angle lens and my viewpoint, as well as some real asymmetry in the cathedral, makes some of the perspective look funny here, but this is the best that I can do without photographing from a crane centered on the facade (and yes, I have seen photographers doing that!).
This photograph was taken only a few days after Christmas (2002), and you can see a large Christmas tree set up on the plaza in front of the cathedral.
