Seine Flooding East of Notre-Dame Cathedral

Beneath a heavily overcast sky on a gray afternoon, we see a large, ornate cathedral in the distance, on an island between two branches of a swollen, silt-laden river that merge in the foreground. The river’s surface is only a few metres below the edge of the island, and the quays and sidewalks on the river’s banks are submerged.
