Many French sites are afflicted by the stupidity of the average French web designer, who still believes that clogging a site with Flash and Shockwave animations, Java, animated Gifs, "web-safe" colors, and other anachronisms actually improves the ergonomy, utility, and aesthetics of a site. The links to these badly-designed sites are in gray to emphasize their unfriendly design. Don't be surprised if you have to wade through all kinds of garbage just to get into such a site, and don't be surprised if the site is unreadable or unusable once you've finally managed to enter it. I've been trying to bring French webmasters up to speed with the rest of the world for years, but they clearly don't care, for the most part. If a site can't even be entered without Flash, it won't appear on the list above at all.
