Bookstalls on the Left BankBookstalls on the Left Bank On a grayish sidewalk, we see a large number of people walking to and fro towards and away from the camera. On the right is a row of bookstalls. Each of the bookstalls is a metallic structure with a squarish cover that opens to form a low canopy. In their open positions as seen here, the bookstalls are filled with used books, magazines, and posters of various types: on shelves hidden in shadow, on racks in front of the bookstalls, and hanging in plastic wrappers from the cover-turned-canopy. One person has her head stuck in among the books and papers to better see the ones in the back of the stall.
