Southern Rose Window from Insidefirst previous next last This is the southern rose window (a gigantic, circular stained glass window) of the Cathédrale de Notre Dame de Paris, as seen from the inside. It is much prettier in person. The inside of the cathedral is lit, of course, but its impossible to photograph both the interior and the stained glass in one photograph, because of the difference in light levels, so shots of the stained glass always appear to be immersed in complete darkness. The major theme of this rose window is Jesus Christ (in the center), surrounded by angels and saints. If you are wondering if it is possible to successfully photograph the rose window from within the cathedral, the answer is yes—see my Notre-Dame FAQ for more information. Photographed on February 12, 2003. |
