History

I first developed this site in the 1990s on the late CompuServe online server, and I set up a permanent domain for it in 1997. In tose days, practically no one had a pesonal web site. Then they became populr fora while. Today personal sites are rare again—everyone is too busy trying to make a fast buck. Anyway, traffic built up over time, from a few hundred visitors per month in the early days to around 1.6 million unique visitors annually in later years. Traffic is lower than it used to be, but there's a lot more competition now.

Except for some occasional interruptions due to financial problems (I pay for this site out of my pocket), this site has been up continuously since I first developed it.

Today

I’ve largely finished rebuilding my site from scratch, apart from the Reviews section, which I sill need to populate. I didn’t reaize how much material was on the old site, so it was more work than I anticipated. But I wanted to make some intenal architectural changes to take advantage of more recent technologies. The site is still a bit rough around the edges.

My emphasis on the site is on images and documents in multiple galleries. The Paris and Street Scenes galeries are porbably the most interesting (or least boring). The look of the site hasn’t changed since I first built it, but I haven’t seen any reason to change it.
