Crazy Horse Saloon

     CrazyHorse

This is the facade of the Crazy Horse Saloon , oneof the most famous nightclubs of Paris, located on the très chic avenue George Vin the eighth arrondissement of the city.

The Crazy Horse was founded by Alain Bernardin in 1951. The Crazy Horseoffers a show accompanied by drinks (dinner-show arrangements are also available), likemany other famous nightclubs of the French capital. However, a distinguishing feature of theCrazy Horse is its emphasis on nude entertainment and extremely innovative lighting arrangements, and these have made much of its reputation over the years. Red seems to be a predominant colorhere (it always reminds me of battle stations, for some reason, but that’s just me!). I’venever been inside.

The name of the club and the attire of the doormen in front (who wear uniforms similar to thoseof the Royal Canadian Mounted Police ) were apparently inspired by the founder’sfascination with the American West, but I’m not sure of the details (particularly the RCMP connection).

Photographed onJune 3, 2001.
