Underground Bus Parking at the Louvre

When the new underground Louvre Museum complex was built in 1991, it included a gigantic underground parking garage for tour buses, seen here.

Essentially all the group tours pass this way today. Behind the camera is an entrance to the Carrousel du Louvre shopping mall, and just beyond that, the underground entrance to the museum itself. You won't see pictures of this cavernous, unglamorous garage in the travel books, but if you are on a group bus tour, you'll certainly pass through it.

I’m not sure of the exact number of available places, but they are legion. This garage was a godsend for the tour operators; you can imagine trying to park hundreds of buses right in the center of town before it existed.
