Japanese Lantern at Parc Monceau

In 1986, the governor ofTokyo, Shunichi Suzuki, offered this (then) 200-year-old Japanese lantern to the mayor of Paris, Jacques Chirac, in a gesture of friendship. It comes from the Kanei-ji temple in Japan, and was bequaehed to it after the death of Ieharu, the tenth Tokugawa shogun.
