Sunday Bird Marketfirst previous next last On the Île de la Cité, the island in the middle of the Seine River that includes Notre-Dame Cathedral, there is a market across from the Prefecture de Police (police headquarters) that sells flowers during the week, called (appropriately) the Marché aux Fleurs. On Sundays, this market converts for the day to a bird market, at which all manner of pet birds and supplies for keeping and feeding them can be purchased. This photograph shows one of the stalls at the Sunday bird market. This stall was selling every conceivable type of seed and grain for the pleasure of avian diners. Indeed, some of the stuff looked tasty enough for a human to munch on, or at least incorporate into his cooking. Photographed on August 6, 2000. |
