Crazy Horse Saloonfirst previous next last This is the facade of the Crazy Horse Saloon, one of the most famous nightclubs of Paris, located on the très chic avenue George V in the eighth arrondissement of the city. The Crazy Horse was founded by Alain Bernardin in 1951. The Crazy Horse offers a show accompanied by drinks (dinner-show arrangements are also available), like many other famous nightclubs of the French capital. However, a distinguishing feature of the Crazy Horse is its emphasis on nude entertainment and extremely innovative lighting arrangements, and these have made much of its reputation over the years. Red seems to be a predominant color here (it always reminds me of battle stations, for some reason, but that’s just me!). I’ve never been inside. The name of the club and the attire of the doormen in front (who wear uniforms similar to those of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police) were apparently inspired by the founder’s fascination with the American West, but I’m not sure of the details (particularly the RCMP connection). Photographed on June 3, 2001. |
