Louvre Entrance on Strikefirst previous next last This is a photograph of the entrance to the Louvre Museum in Paris, taken during a strike in May and June, 1999. In this picture, you can see the Pyramide behind the glass sign in the foreground. Normally, this entrance would have a long line of visitors in front of it, but since the museum workers were on strike, the museum was closed. The various papers you see taped to the sign explain the plight and complaints of the museum workers and explain that the museum is closed due to a strike in several languages. You are looking east in the photograph. Behind the camera and somewhat to the left is the axis of the Tuileries Gardens and the Champs-Élysées. Photographed on May 31, 1999. |
