Older Métro Car Interior

first      previous      next      last

This is the interior of a Métro trainset on line 10, a typical line of the Paris subway.

While this isn't the most modern line of the network (that would be line 14), this is a very typical line. The trainset is separated into individual cars, and you cannot switch between them (unlike, say, the New York subway system, which does allow passengers to move between cars). No air conditioning, either. The car interiors have been refurbished and are fairly colorful and clean.

This trainset has a driver. Many lines on the Métro are equipped for driverless operation, but the unions are strongly opposed to this, and they are the most militant and intransigent unions in France.

The train is clean and well lit. This was during off-peak hours and during a vacation period, so the train isn't very crowded. It starts to look like Tokyo during normal rush hours, though.

Photographed on July 17, 2008.
