Notre-Dame Cathedral (Close-Up)

first      previous      next      last

This is a view of people on the pont au Double and place du Parvis near Notre-Dame on a weekday evening around 10:00 PM. The bridge is usually blocked off to traffic day and night, and often people perform stunts with skateboards or roller skates along the street leading across the bridge. There was a large crowd here on this evening, as usual.

It was difficult to get a clear shot of the people doing the stunts, both because of the large crowd and because I used a time exposure, which made everything that moved blur into invisibility. Still, this photograph conveys some of the atmosphere of the place in the evening. The animation of the people on the bridge kind of contrasts with the huge cathedral looming behind.

Photographed on July 19, 1999.
