Conciergerie from the Pont d'Arcolefirst previous next last This is a view of the branch of the Seine River that passes between the Île de la Cité and the Right Bank, taken from the pont d’Arcole. The well-lit building on the left in the background is the Conciergerie; the sharp spire to the left of it is the central spire of the Sainte-Chapelle, which is inside the Conciergerie. I include this picture mainly because it looks nice. This is exactly the way it appeared when I stood there to take the photograph. The camera even managed to capture the sunset correctly. I propped it carefully up on a stone support of the bridge railing to take this photo (which required a time exposure of one second). The sliver of orange on the lower right is part of the George Pompidou expressway that runs down on the water along the Right Bank in this area. The photo was taken just after ten PM; the sun has set some time ago, but the sky is slow to darken at this time of year (summer). Photographed on July 19, 1999. |
