Pont Neuf at Nightfirst previous next last This is the northern (Right-Bank) arm of the Pont Neuf at night, as it appears from a spot on the quai du Louvre just northwest of the bridge. You are looking southeast in this photograph, which was taken at about 8 PM in the evening. Like most of my evening photographs, this photograph was a long exposure of about eight seconds. The brilliant red streaks you see on the lower left are the rear lights of cars moving east on the voie Georges Pompidou (Georges Pompidou Expressway), which runs right next to and above the water of the Seine River. This same expressway is on the right-hand side of the image in my main photograph of the bridge. This exactly the way the bridge looks in real life. Like many famous monuments in Paris, it is brilliantly lit at night. The very bright blue light at the extreme right of the photograph, however, is coming from an excursion boat docked at the Vedettes du Pont-Neuf embarcation pier, which is at the western extreme of the Île de la Cité. By the way, if you look just to the right of the center of the bridge and into the background, beyond the buildings in the darkness behind, you can just see the brightly lit northern tower of Notre-Dame Cathedral. Photographed on November 11, 2000. |
