Food Court at the Louvrefirst previous next last This is the food court at the Louvre, opened in 1993 with the rest of the Carrousel du Louvre underground shopping mall just east of the museum. A large variety of restaurants offer everything from Spanish tapas to roast chicken to cucumber salad to hamburgers. This food court was a very badly needed addition to the Louvre complex, since there was virtually no place to eat within easy walking distance of the Louvre before the food court was built. It looks very much like the kind of food courts you see in American shopping malls. It is open until 11 PM every night, and it is filled with tourists most of the time. I don’t often visit the Louvre itself, but I eat at the food court occasionally. The food is quite good, and the prices are low. I’ve seen a family of five eat here for just $40, which is pretty much unheard of elsewhere in Paris. Even if you aren’t visiting the Louvre, this can be an economical and convenient place to eat. This photo was taken late at night, when there was hardly anyone at the food court. During mealtimes during the day, it's packed. Photographed on July 12, 2008. |
