Temple of Love at VersaillesTempleOfLove
This “Temple of Love” is located in the Trianon portion of the gardens at Versailles. It is very pretty, which is why I took a picture of it. It’s famous, too (but then again, most things at Versailles are famous, anyway). The statue, seen here from the side (I shot from this angle because the lighting was better) is a copy of an original statue by Bouchardon, now in the Louvre, depicting Cupid shooting at Hercules with his bow, or something roughly like that (I haven’t examined the sculpture in detail). You are looking west in this photo, which was taken in the late afternoon. Off to the right, and outside the photo, is the Queen’s Hamlet, and off to the left, and also not visible, are the Grand and Petit Trianons. Photographed on August 24, 1999. |
