Assemblée Nationalefirst previous next last The headquarters of the French National Assembly (Assemblée Nationale) is in the building shown here, on the Right Bank of the Seine River, facing the Pont de la Concorde bridge. The National Assembly is similar to the House of Representatives in the U.S. Congress, or the House of Commons in the U.K. Parliament. The members of the National Assembly are called députés, and this house is the larger and usually more influential house of the two houses in the legislative branch of the French government (the other house is the Sénat). The French and European flags are always flying at the Assembly. I've only seen them flown at half staff one time: right after September 11, 2001. I was touched. Photographed on May 4, 2011. |
