Names on the Eiffel Tower

This photograph shows some of the names that are embossed on the Eiffel Tower, thus proving the truth of what many people seem to regard as an urban legend.

There are 72 names in all, 18 per side of the tower, all positioned just below the first platform of the structure, on the outside. The letters in the names are 60 centimetres high. Here you see part of the northwest side of the tower, which faces the Palais de Chaillot.

The railing of the platform along the top of the photo gives an idea of scale.
