Lock on the Canal St. MartinLock on the Canal St. Martin From a downstream position on a narrow, man-made canal, we see a barge sitting in a lock. The barge is nearly level with the downstream gate of the lock. People standing behind a railing overlooking the lock on the left watch the proceedings. A man on the bow of the barge with a little girl at his side is talking with one of the lock operators as the latter prepares to open the downstream door of the lock.
