Square Vivianifirst previous next last This small park is on the Left Bank, in the Latin Quarter, right across the Seine River from Notre-Dame Cathedral. It is called the Square Viviani. Like so many Paris parks, it is very pretty and charming, even though it is small—and the looming, thousand-year-old cathedral in the background certainly adds a lot of atmosphere! Youre looking roughly west-northwest in this photograph, taken on an April afternoon. In the background, aligned with the southern tower of the cathedral (that is, near the middle of the photo) is the Pont au Double, on which my nighttime photo of pedestrians and skaters was taken. Off to the extreme left, and not visible in the photo, are the pedestrian streets rue de la Huchette and rue de la Harpe. Beyond the buildings on the right is the pont de lArchevêché, from which my main photo of Notre-Dame was taken. Photographed on April 25, 1999. |
